Providing consistent quality healthcare is a complex challenge that requires concerted effort from government, civil society, the private sector and individuals working together. It is also important to recognize that health is related to poverty, it is connected to the conditions in which people are born, live and work – making impoverished communities more vulnerable. For a period spanning over two decades, Transnet recognized that a healthy population and workforce is both a prerequisite for economic development and a result of economic growth. Through the multi- award winning Phelophepa 1 and Phelophepa II, the Company understood that one of the ways in which we can have greater impact on society through CSI was to deepen and scale the reach of projects which are a current success. This results in added value and allows for communities to see the real benefits from these programmes over time. Sustainable corporate social investment initiatives, touching lives of those in greatest need, are at the centre of Transnet values.
